Check out the short video of Cadillacs’ with Northstar engines being repaired.
Northstar-Cooling System Modification Kit is included in the repair.
The Cadillac Northstar rarely exhibits typical blown head gasket symptoms.
The Northstar engine features a die-cast aluminum block and aluminum heads. Designed to produce more power than competing engines put the Northstar at risk for head gasket failure. The problem is peculiar to 1993 to 2010 models. Head gasket problems have plagued the Northstar.
Overheating problems can usually be traced to a component failure and repaired. Sometimes a mechanic checks the cooling system and finds nothing wrong. So, without any clear indication as to what’s causing the problem a mechanic may suggest replacing various cooling system components, like a radiator, water pump or thermostat. Eventually the coolant starts disappearing and it starts to overheat again.
Most Northstar engines can idle all day and not loose a drop of coolant or overheat. However, as soon as you get on the freeway the temperature starts to go up and the low coolant light appears again.
